MEXICO, Thursday, June 14, 2018 – Ford Motor Company Fund returns to Mexico to celebrate the Ford Driving Dreams essay contest winners. Ford Fund, in collaboration with the Ford Dealers Civic Committee and United Way Mexico, awarded over $220,000 in Ford Driving Dreams scholarships to 100 sixth graders from Ford schools in Mexico. Ford Fund is the philanthropic arm of Ford Motor Company.
Earlier this year, Ford Fund launched the Ford Driving Dreams program with two days of educational activities, where close to 900 students from first to sixth grades benefited. During this visit, the “What Drives Your Dreams?” essay contest was announced.
The scholarship awards celebration was held at the Holiday Inn Tlalnepantla. The students shared their dreams for their academic future and their motivation for staying in school and pursuing higher education. A brief workshop was held to explain the three-year scholarships and next steps. Community leaders, Ford Fund representatives, Ford Mexico dealers, and Ford Dealers Civic Committee representatives joined the celebration. The scholarships will be administered by United Way Mexico.
“I am thrilled to be back in Mexico to celebrate the achievements of all the Ford Driving Dreams scholarships winners,” said Joe Avila, manager, community development, U.S. and Latin America. “Thank you, Ford Mexico, Ford Dealers Civic Committee and United Way Mexico, for your support and commitment towards helping Mexican youth succeed and reach their goals.”
The Ford Dealers Civic Committee operates 193 Ford schools that have an enrollment of 80,000 students and offer parental engagement programs, as well as training for more than 5,000 teachers, directors, and alumni. The Ford schools have graduated 1,600,000 students.
“This is a well-deserved celebration for our young talent and future leaders,” said Gabriel López, President and CEO, Ford Mexico. “Our collaboration is crucial to continue making a difference in the lives of our students by providing opportunities and tools that will get them closer to their dreams.”
The Ford Driving Dreams Tour was designed by Ford Motor Company Fund in 2012 to help students graduate on time and pursue higher education. Since its launch, the program has reached more than 100,000 students in California, Chicago, Florida, Indiana, Panama, Puerto Rico and Texas. Ford Driving Dreams initiatives have delivered close to $10 million in educational resources such as scholarships, college preparedness, tutoring programs, parental engagement and literacy activities.
